Indigenous Tree Planting Programme (ITP)

Welcome to the Indigenous Tree Planting Programme, where we are committed to restoring and preserving Uganda's rich biodiversity by planting indigenous trees nationwide. Our programme goal is to plant at least 50,000 trees annually.

How We Plant Trees?

Our approach to tree planting is community-based and participatory. We work closely with local communities and other stakeholders to identify priority areas for tree planting and ensure our efforts align with local needs and priorities.

We source our seedlings from local nurseries, ensuring they are indigenous and well-adapted to the local environment. We engage community members in the planting process, creating awareness about the importance of indigenous trees and their role in environmental conservation. We also train them on proper tree care, including watering, pruning, and pest control.

Prunus Africana Project – Mukono District

We partner with Mercantile Credit Bank Limited and run the Prunus Africana Project in Mpatta Sub-County. We have planted over 30,000 Prunus Africana trees in the district through this project. Due to illegal bark harvesting, Prunus Africana is an endangered tree species, according to CITES. Our project goal is to restore the population of Prunus Africana in Uganda. Our efforts have also created employment opportunities for local communities, improved air quality and soil conservation, and created a carbon sink.

Community Tree Nursery

For sustainability, we have facilitated the set-up of the first community tree nursery in Kabanga Parish, Mukono District, alongside Greenstead Secondary School. Join Us! We want your support to extend this impact to other regions in Uganda. You can join our efforts by volunteering, donating, or partnering with us in our tree-planting initiative.
